The Importance Of The Engagement Session

Engagement Session is an Icebreaker

There are a number of reasons couples should consider having an engagement portrait taken. The obvious one, of course, is to create a record of the occasion and preserve those special memories. Another reason is to spend some quality time getting to know your wedding photographer (and vice versa), so everyone feels less like strangers at the big event. Hence, it's recommended couples hire a wedding photographer that includes engagement portraits in his/her photo packages. One of the best reasons for doing an engagement shoot is the opportunity to do something fun and relaxed for just the two of you in the busy months leading up to your wedding. Make your engagement shoot fun and meaningful!

Let your personalities shine

Engagement sessions are important to photographers because it allows them to see how comfortable a couple is in front of the camera (some are naturals, others need some help); and, believe it or not, how at ease they are with each other (some couples are so anxious in front of the camera, they act like they just met!). In turn, an engagement session allows couples to experience firsthand how their photographer works (is she/he easy going and fun, or rigid and a little uptight), and, they’ll be more relaxed—and look more natural—for the wedding photos.
This is where your photographer really gets to know you, your preferences and your personality. A real pro develops a relationship with the couple at this session which makes him/her an “insider” at the wedding and better equipped to capture you during your best moments.

You and your photographer gain a comfort level with each other and he/she gets a sense of when you’re really smiling and when you’re putting on a happy face for the camera. This “insider” knowledge helps create more natural and beautiful photos on the actual wedding day.

  1. Pick a location that is meaningful to you. Maybe it’s a university campus where you met. A favorite spot at which you’ve shared special moments. Indoors or out — make it “your” location where you both feel comfortable. You can even choose several locations if those are spots that help define your relationship
  2. Have fun — be silly, serious, goofy and loveable. Let your hair down, wear your favorite clothes and just relax.
  3. During this session, you’ll get to know your photographer better and, most of all, the photographer will get to know you. When the wedding day arrives, the camera will pick up your best side, bring out your personality and create photo memories that you”ll absolutely love for a lifetime!

How Much Will Engagement Photos Cost?

A good photographer will include an engagement photo session in their wedding package. If you want an engagement photo book — often used as a wedding guest book — put together by the photographer, you can expect prices in the $200- $400 range. They design a creative book just for you with your photos.

Just Relax And Do It!
If you think your shy in front of the camera your not the only one.It really is simple, all you have to do is be yourself. Ignore the photographer (trust me, he/she will be thrilled) and focus on each other. Have fun, look into each other's eyes, run, jump, and wrestle; tease each other, flirt, and kiss. PDA (public displays of affection) is cool, trust me! If you can relax and be yourself, you'll more than likely be pleased with the results.
